I liked it when it used to be St Francis. Since Mayo has taken over, I see an empire being built at the expense of quality care. In many cases not being done at the main facility in La Crosse but being done in satellite facilities many of which are in the sticks. They have no problem putting extreme hardship on senior citizens sending them out to places like Sparta for cataract surgeries. These surgeries should be done at the main facilities in La Crosse. So it tells you what they think of senior citizens since it’s mostly seiners that need cataract surgeries. The hospital staff is great. The major problem lies with the hospital administrator, board of directors, and CEOs. In final, a simple surgery like this should be done at the main facility where you don’t have to travel 60 miles or more to have it done. It also should have been done at Vernon Memorial or Crossing Meadows in Prari Ducine.

I tore a ligament in my shoulder. Hoping to downplay the injury, I sought treatment from several chiropractors and a massage therapist. The chiropractors, who conducted X-rays, unanimously recommended an MRI. Given my history of spinal damage from over twenty years ago, I carefully researched orthopedic specialists with expertise in sports injuries, trauma, and neurological conditions. Despite my diligence, I had doubts about the first specialist I chose.

I scheduled an appointment at FS/MCHS and provided a detailed overview of my injury and the chiropractors' recommendations. Despite presenting X-rays, thermal images, and chiropractor notes, the orthopedic specialist dismissed my concerns, suggesting I see a kinesiologist and an acupuncturist. He claimed diagnosing my symptoms was not his responsibility but that of a general practitioner (GP).

Undeterred, I scheduled an appointment with the GP at FS/MCHS. Unfortunately, the GP was equally dismissive, ignoring my concerns despite three detailed explanations. He even claimed I never mentioned certain details previously. Shockingly, the GP admitted he did not know what the acromioclavicular joint was and dismissed any possibility of arthritis. To make matters worse, he seemed irritated by my background in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, and my previous employment at the Rochester Mayo Clinic, complaining that I was "difficult to understand" due to my use of medical terms. Ironically, in his after-visit summary, he acknowledged I did have arthritis.

Seeking a competent diagnosis, I turned to Gundersen Lutheran and consulted with an orthopedic specialist. I provided a chronological account of my injury and the treatments I had pursued. They immediately scheduled an MRI, which confirmed a tear in the middle of the ligament and revealed arthritis. A second opinion at Gundersen confirmed this diagnosis. Despite this clear evidence, FS/MCHS continued to deny my claim when I presented it. They refused to transfer my records to Rochester Mayo or provide a referral. My insurance provider, affiliated with MCHS at the time, also denied my request, insisting the surgery could be performed at FS/MCHS and refusing to authorize a referral to Rochester Mayo. Years have passed without surgery, and FS/MCHS continues to dismiss my injury and ignore the evidence.

Later, I consulted an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine for professional teams such as the Milwaukee Bucks, Brewers, and Panthers while attending UWM/MU. He agreed with Gundersen's assessment that surgery was necessary. However, due to pressing family matters, I have not yet undergone the surgery and continue to live in pain.

Beyond my personal experience, a relative suffered a stroke in late 2023. Despite her clear need for specialized care, FS/MCHS persistently refused to provide her with inpatient care at Rochester Mayo. Instead, their social workers transferred her to a facility they falsely claimed was an "acute stroke care center," where she suffered physical and emotional abuse. FS/MCHS denied these allegations and refused to take responsibility. The physicians at FS/MCHS not only fail to follow advanced directives but also neglect to communicate with those listed on the directive or ensure informed consent. Social workers at FS/MCHS seem to ignore serious concerns. My relative, now in home care, could have potentially avoided the stroke had the ER doctors admitted her for observation for 3-4 days when she complained of a headache in the same area where the stroke later occurred, six to eight months prior.

The physicians and specialists at FS/MCHS appear to avoid accountability, passing responsibility to others while claiming that someone else is responsible for proper care.

Beware: "the patient's needs come first," "treating the untreatable," "solving the unsolvable," "seeing the unseeable," and "predicting the unpredictable" are nothing but marketing ploys. From my experience and understanding of research and studies in arch/engineer, FS/MC are fundamentally disrespectful

I was absolutely amazed by the team that operated on me and provided post care. Truly some amazing people working at this hospital. They made not only me but my family feel cared about and kept us reassured. They went above and beyond and I have never felt so cared for by medical professionals.

Called to ask why I have to pay 100% when I have Medicaid. They advised I have an HMO they don't accept, but wouldn't tell me which HMOs they do accept. She advised to look on their website for a list of accepted HMOs. This list either does not exist or is impossible to find. So, I had to make an uneducated guess that will drastically effect my life and finances because Mayo support employees can't be bothered to actually help people.

Lastly, sending messages to patients but not allowing them to reply is infuriating.

Not impressed. I was disappointed in the care at ER. The doctor was arrogant and dismissive of the concerns I had. Nurses were young college age nice but not attentive. Will not be back there again. They don’t do X rays at the ER? That’s a first… and I’m an employee for Mayo. Will never go to the La Crosse location again,

After my hospital stay I only have great things to say- especially the staff on Floor 9! The staff makes you feel like an important person in their care and not just a number. A special shout out to my nursing staff Kenzie, Hannah, Shelly, & Jake. Also would not be recovering at home without the care and knowledge of my doctors- Dr. Larsen, Dr. Hussain, Dr. Jenad, and Dr. Deetz. Thank you!!!!!

I can't get an appointment for a colonoscopy. I have the physicians assistant call to order, my physician to order one, even the advice nurse called to help me schedule and when I finally got a colonoscopy appointment for August after a few months of attempts, I got one only to have it cancelled and told I need to schedule for Jauary of 2025 but couldn't do it that far out.

I'm totally disgusted with this company. They are well known but fail to provide professional service and overcharge in every way possible. If they know they did something wrong or incorrect, they'll be playing victim when we are supposed to trust them in taking care of us. Just what we need, another way to have less faith in humanity when it's places like this that are supposed to take care of you. Not to be another number to give them undeserved profits.
